LifeNet

LIFENET is a Living Lab that has been developed in Volos, a city of Central Greece, situated both by the sea and by the mountain of Pelion. The city is located about 326 km north from Athens and 215 km south from Thessaloniki. It is the capital of the Magnesia prefecture.

LIFENET is affiliated with the Department of Computer and Communication Engineering of University of Thessaly (UTh) and the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and it is based on a hybrid wireless infrastructure that has been developed and spans the whole city. LIFENET is strongly supported by the Network Implementation Testbed Laboratory (NITlab).

LIFENET is a partner of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL).

The wireless network infrastructure of LIFENET is based on a heterogeneous technology and includes WiMAX – WiFi connectivity, sensors and wireless cameras.

Based on this rich enhanced backbone we can provide several living lab services and we are developing more. Samples of such services are: e-participation, social care for elder people, emergency network, small and medium enterprises involvement and e-transportation.
